Ahhhh!!! Where to begin...where to begin… Mexico
= beautiful.. breathtaking.. exhilarating.. hot...& yes exhausting. I felt as though I was in a postcard come alive.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but at
the beginning of the year, I set a goal to save a certain amount of money
by December. At the same time, I had Mexico on my mind which of course
requires well, a significant amount money. So, I set out to go on this trip without breaking the bank; here’s the rough breakdown of how Mexico happened.
Flights: $920 (2 adults & infant < 2 in
lap)
Accommodation: Wyndham Azteca $540 (Living Social Deal – all
inclusive)
Ground Transportation (Cancun
Airport Rnd trip): $90
Miscellaneous Spending: 300
Unexpected costs : Excursions - $ 260 & Airport Parking: $74
Total Trip Cost: $2,184 for family of 3
We went over budget by $94, which is not too
bad.
Day One
Our first day in Playa del Carmen started off with a minor bump – our
room was not ready when we arrived. And so
we had to wait a couple hours to get settled in. To be fair, the hotel staff
was very apologetic and worked very hard to get us set up as quickly as possible,
while we waited, we were given complete access to the resort’s facilities.
Day Two
I really really really really really did I
say really?! wanted to visit to the Pre-historic city of Chichen Itza, one of
the new 7 wonders of the world. But Itza was a 3 hour trip from our
resort and we just did not have the heart to put our little girl through another
long trip so soon. We settled for
the next best cultural experience which was Xcaret (EshKaret). The best way to describe Xcaret would be a Disneyesque Mayan civilization meets eco park. Wikipedia calls it a Mayan civilization archaeological site. Xcaret is so huge that you couldn't possibly see or do everything in one day. We settled for the trips to the Butterfly Pavillion, Mayan Village and the Underground River.
